Realizing that America’s most precious resources is her abundance of devoted and enthusiastic young people, Kappa Alpha Psi maintains a program designed to assist and direct its members in a complete knowledge and understanding of the natural and human resources and of the values of developing and utilizing them to the end that they may take their rightful places in the workaday world.
Undergraduates are presented an opportunity to learn about personal and professional requirements for careers, and occupational opportunities in commerce and industry, trade unions, military service, government and the professions.
Guide Right is both inspirational and informational, within the limitation of a college fraternity, within the limitations of college fraternity. It is planned and administered on a year-round basis by members of unique qualification. It is implemented by the Fraternity’s undergraduate and alumni chapters, with the assistance of management, organized labor, and outside persons trained in the arts, sciences, and technologies.
SCHOLARSHIP EMPHASIS
Kappa Alpha Psi is dedicated to the purpose of achievement and to the purposes of the college and university. To this end, high scholastic standing is required for membership intake and orientation and continued active membership. Undergraduate members are encouraged through scholarship grants and loans. Outsiders also receive scholarship from local graduate and undergraduate chapters and individual members without regard to race or sex.
COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITY
Kappa Alpha Psi believes that after man learns to live in peace with himself, he must learn to live in harmony with his fellow man. This he must do without regard to background or affiliations. Dedicated as we are to universal brotherhood, the Fraternity encourages its chapters . . .undergraduate and graduate alike . . . and individual members to become vitally concerned with and involved in community affairs.
Graduate and undergraduate chapters throughout the nation contribute to college and university scholarship and loan funds, participate in community drives, assist the underprivileged, plan and operate youth programs, and generally contribute toward the improvement of community life. INTER-CULTURAL RELATIONS
Kappa Alpha Psi believes in effective democratic living. It encourages its members and chapters to provide facility for wholesome and meaningful inter-cultural relations among diverse national, racial, and religious groups. Its membership has never been restricted to a particular race, creed, color, or economic status. Attitudes of social distance are discouraged. Every opportunity is taken to bring about better understandings among the membership and other groups.
SOCIAL LIFE
Kappa Alpha Psi believes that serious academy and intellectual pursuits should be combined with unforgettable playtime activities. A thorough program of wholesome social activities is encouraged. The social program is viewed as a means for training and disciplining. From it the undergraduate learns good manners, good taste, and the value of wholesome companionships; thus, contributing toward the education of the whole man.
The formal banquet, the formal ball, informal parties, athletics, the campus serenade, preparing for membership intake and informative activities, the homecoming float, the crowing of a queen, contests, the giving of a sweetheart pin, and the like add to the list of events that spark Kappa Alpha Psi chapter calendars. Kappas have fun doing things as a fraternity and becoming better men for the experience.
